System Building for NJC Baseball

Building Pitching Systems at NJC: My Trip to Sterling, Colorado

Over the last six days, I had the opportunity to spend time in Sterling, Colorado, working directly with the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) pitching staff. It has been a great experience to collaborate with a nationally recognized program and help build systems that give players the tools they need to improve.

This trip represents exactly what URATBB is about: Building Dominant Pitching at All Levels.

Building the Foundation: Preparation and Daily Structure

The primary goal of this first trip was to put a system in place that creates consistency in how pitchers prepare each day. At NJC, we focused on:

  • Activation and Prep Work – ensuring players start each session ready to move at their best.

  • ArmCare Testing & Custom Training – collecting baseline data, identifying weaknesses, and tailoring programs to each pitcher.

  • PitchLogic Data Collection – using objective data to guide pitch design and maximize movement.

  • Drill Implementation – targeted drills that reinforce efficient mechanics.

  • Daily Planning – giving pitchers structure to maximize each day, rather than wasting reps.

When players understand the process and can follow it consistently, performance starts to compound quickly.

Integrating Recovery and Growth Tools

Beyond throwing and training, each pitcher also learned how to integrate recovery into their daily routines. Recovery is what allows athletes to get more reps, train harder, and stay on the field longer.

We worked with the NJC pitchers on:

  • Marc Pro sessions to speed up recovery.

  • Magnesium salves to aid in muscle relaxation and repair.

  • Aerobic and anaerobic conditioning to build durability.

  • Mindset development – encouraging each player to set goals higher than they thought possible.

The goal is simple: create a system each athlete can own, so their recovery and growth are not random, but intentional.

The Junior College Edge

Junior College baseball is unique. Many JUCO players don’t have the same luxuries or resources as Division I athletes—not because they aren’t as good (in fact, some JUCO players are even better), but because budgets and accommodations are often more limited.

That makes it even more critical for JUCO pitchers to have structure. They must, in a sense, become their own best coaches. Developing a reliable system for preparation, training, and recovery allows them to separate themselves from the pack and make the jump to the next level.

Why Systems Matter for Every Program

Whether at NJC, a Division I school, or a local high school, the foundation of successful pitching development is a system built on experience and understanding. Talent alone isn’t enough. A structured program that integrates training, recovery, technology, and mindset gives players a clear path forward.

This trip was a reminder of how powerful it is to combine experience from the MLB, college baseball, and professional playing into one system that pitchers can trust.

Closing Thoughts & Next Steps

I’m grateful for the chance to work with the NJC program and players. Their buy-in was outstanding, and I’m excited to see their growth this season.

For those outside NJC who are looking to get a head start on implementing these same systems, we’ve built a Pitching System Manual that is available for purchase. This resource walks you through the exact structures we teach at the college level, and it can be adapted to fit your program or individual development.

If you’d like more information—or if you want to bring me in directly to work with your team—reach out at URATBB.com or email me directly.

Because at every level, the mission stays the same:
Building Dominant Pitching at All Levels.
