System Building for NJC Baseball

Building Pitching Systems at NJC: My Trip to Sterling, Colorado

Over the last six days, I had the opportunity to spend time in Sterling, Colorado, working directly with the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) pitching staff. It has been a great experience to collaborate with a nationally recognized program and help build systems that give players the tools they need to improve.

This trip represents exactly what URATBB is about: Building Dominant Pitching at All Levels.

Building the Foundation: Preparation and Daily Structure

The primary goal of this first trip was to put a system in place that creates consistency in how pitchers prepare each day. At NJC, we focused on:

  • Activation and Prep Work – ensuring players start each session ready to move at their best.

  • ArmCare Testing & Custom Training – collecting baseline data, identifying weaknesses, and tailoring programs to each pitcher.

  • PitchLogic Data Collection – using objective data to guide pitch design and maximize movement.

  • Drill Implementation – targeted drills that reinforce efficient mechanics.

  • Daily Planning – giving pitchers structure to maximize each day, rather than wasting reps.

When players understand the process and can follow it consistently, performance starts to compound quickly.

Integrating Recovery and Growth Tools

Beyond throwing and training, each pitcher also learned how to integrate recovery into their daily routines. Recovery is what allows athletes to get more reps, train harder, and stay on the field longer.

We worked with the NJC pitchers on:

  • Marc Pro sessions to speed up recovery.

  • Magnesium salves to aid in muscle relaxation and repair.

  • Aerobic and anaerobic conditioning to build durability.

  • Mindset development – encouraging each player to set goals higher than they thought possible.

The goal is simple: create a system each athlete can own, so their recovery and growth are not random, but intentional.

The Junior College Edge

Junior College baseball is unique. Many JUCO players don’t have the same luxuries or resources as Division I athletes—not because they aren’t as good (in fact, some JUCO players are even better), but because budgets and accommodations are often more limited.

That makes it even more critical for JUCO pitchers to have structure. They must, in a sense, become their own best coaches. Developing a reliable system for preparation, training, and recovery allows them to separate themselves from the pack and make the jump to the next level.

Why Systems Matter for Every Program

Whether at NJC, a Division I school, or a local high school, the foundation of successful pitching development is a system built on experience and understanding. Talent alone isn’t enough. A structured program that integrates training, recovery, technology, and mindset gives players a clear path forward.

This trip was a reminder of how powerful it is to combine experience from the MLB, college baseball, and professional playing into one system that pitchers can trust.

Closing Thoughts & Next Steps

I’m grateful for the chance to work with the NJC program and players. Their buy-in was outstanding, and I’m excited to see their growth this season.

For those outside NJC who are looking to get a head start on implementing these same systems, we’ve built a Pitching System Manual that is available for purchase. This resource walks you through the exact structures we teach at the college level, and it can be adapted to fit your program or individual development.

Velocity Gains Through Precision: Carter Lacsamana & Trevor Horne's Breakthrough

At URAT Baseball, we pride ourselves on pairing cutting-edge tools with purposeful drill work to unlock each pitcher’s full potential. Two of our dedicated athletes, Carter Lacsamana and Trevor Horne, have shown just how powerful that combination can be.

Over the past several months, both pitchers have been immersed in a customized ArmCare program—focusing on measurable improvements in arm strength—paired with guided, high-intent drill work designed to get them into more efficient positions on the mound. The goal wasn’t just to throw harder, but to move better, repeat mechanics under stress, and sustain velocity deep into outings.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Carter Lacsamana recently reached 86 MPH in his bullpen, marking a 4 MPH jump since we began this focused training. Carter is a player to keep a very close eye on—based on our intake and assessment data, he projects to be in the 90–93 MPH range by the start of the high school baseball season. He’s a big arm that should not be slept on.

  • Trevor Horne, an incoming freshman at Corner Canyon High School and left-handed pitcher, also touched 86 MPH—a gain of over 10 MPH since he started with us. His progress has already caught attention, with one of our recent Instagram posts drawing interest from universities across the nation.

Both athletes’ progress is the product of the same formula:

  1. Data-driven ArmCare strength progression to bulletproof the arm and shoulder.

  2. Targeted mechanical adjustments through deliberate drill work to improve posture, sequencing, and timing.

  3. Consistent feedback loops using measurable metrics, ensuring that every rep builds toward the ultimate goal—dominant in-game velocity and command.

Their success is proof that when you combine stronger arms with better movement patterns, velocity gains are not just possible—they’re inevitable.

This is only the beginning for Carter and Trevor, and we can’t wait to see these gains translate into live-game dominance this season.

“Why the Right Offseason Plan Sets Up Your Best Season Yet”

“Why the Right Offseason Plan Sets Up Your Best Season Yet”

How smart development now leads to standout performance when it matters.

The offseason isn’t a break — it’s the blueprint.
It’s the time where pitchers build the tools they’ll need to dominate in-season. But without a smart, performance-focused plan, most players fall into one of two traps:
❌ Doing too little and showing up rusty
❌ Doing too much of the wrong stuff — and plateauing

At Utah Rotational Athlete Training, we create custom development plans that target every layer of performance — so you don’t just train hard… you train right.

🔥 What Our Offseason Plans Focus On:

🎯 1. Pitch Command & Strike Percentage

It’s not just about throwing — it’s about throwing with purpose.
We develop strike-throwing habits and zone awareness to increase first-pitch strike %3-2 pitch confidence, and limit free bases.

🧠 2. Weak Contact, Not Just Strikeouts

We teach you how to pitch to your strengths, sequence effectively, and create bad swings early in the count — shortening innings and keeping you in games longer.

🌀 3. Pitch Shape & Movement Patterns

Your pitches don’t just need velocity — they need identity.
We help develop distinct pitch shapes (ride, depth, arm-side run, cut) and ensure you have separation between offerings to keep hitters off-balance.

⚡ 4. Velocity Development, the Smart Way

Velocity is more than just arm speed — it’s the product of efficient movement, explosive power, and rotational speed.

We take a complete approach by combining:

  • Individualized throwing programs that progressively build intensity

  • Velocity-based strength training to enhance lower-half explosiveness

  • Rotational core strength and speed development to generate powerful hip-to-shoulder separation

  • Targeted weighted ball work to improve arm speed, sequencing, and throwing intent

  • Real-time ArmCare data to manage workload, recovery, and performance gains

This isn’t about chasing numbers blindly — it’s about building repeatable velocity that shows up in games and holds up under pressure.

🧩 5. Strategy & Tactics Against Hitters

Most pitchers just try to “blow it by” guys.
We teach the game inside the game:

  • Reading swings

  • Setting hitters up

  • Attacking weaknesses

  • Pitching with a plan, not hope

📈 How It All Comes Together

When these elements are trained together — command, stuff, IQ, and power — you create a pitcher that’s ready to perform on the mound, not just impress in a bullpen.

This is the difference between being on the roster… and being the guy who takes the ball in big games.
